Final Drive Made on Hicks Petition as Over 250 Sign

Will Be Presented to Corporation or President Early This Week

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

with over 250 signatures, far exceeding their original expectations, backers of the petition urging retention of Granville Hicks start their final drive today.

The petition will be filed tomorrow or Wednesday with the President or the Corporation. It is likely that it will be referred to the Department of History and Literature or the Department of English in either of which fields Hicks' qualifications would make him suitable for a permanent appointment if one were open.

The success of the petition has decided the backers to appeal directly to the University rather than to the departments in order that immediate action can be taken.
