Indians Slip Up in Contest With Columbia but Keep Hold On First Place

For the second year in a row, the Dartmouth Indian cagers proved themselves too tough for the rest of the League teams during the first part of the campaign and piled up a safe margin over their closest rivals. This year they went nine games before being tripped by the Big Red, and last night they also bowed to the Columbia Lions, leaving the Mooneyites only one game behind the Green, but without a mathematical chance of overtaking them.

Columbia has been coming fast at the end of the schedule, and the 50 to 45 win which Captain Tom Macioce's boys registered over the Big Green last night was no fluke. They were touted as title contenders at the start of the season, and their strong finish has justified this prediction.

The defeat which the Crimson suffered last night from the Pennsylvania Quakers cost them all hope of getting out of the League cellar. Now, the best they can hope for is a victory over Yale Saturday and a last place tie with those same Elis. The game is to be played at New Haven, and Coach Ken Loeffler's Blue charges will be favored because of their 47 to 31 victory in Cambridge.

Although he was limited to four points in the Cornell contest, Dartmouth's Gus Broberg is far out in front of the field in the individual scoring race. With eight points last night, he broke the League all-time scoring record of 151 set by Pennsylvania's McNicholl in 1921. Cornell's Jim Bennett is second and Walt Foertsch, also of Cornell, is in third position. HOOP STANDINGS College  W  L  Pts.  Op. Pts.
