To the Editor of the Crimson:

The annual rush on the Houses is gaining momentum and with it the problem of the rejected applicants rears its ugly head. Various schemes for giving students living about the square an opportunity to participate in House activities have been offered. Outstanding among them is the suggestion that associate memberships be established in the various Houses. However, the proposal has failed to click and there seems to be no likelihood that it will be acted upon in the near future. What can be done in the meantime?

The athletic program of the Houses is one to be highly praised. It permits men, not of varsity caliber, to carry on actively in one or the other sporting events. However, up to the present, the competition has been restricted to House occupants, who have been able to secure equipment and the like from the H.A.A. Men living outside have been unable to participate in this program and without doubt feel keenly about it. As a step towards ameliorating the position of the "out-houser" why not extend the House athletic program so that all undergrads may have a chance to take part in it. Mathew Taback '40.
