Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Eight Juniors were elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society at a meeting held in the Lowell House Common Room. This was the first of three elections to the society for the Class of 1940, the next vote coming in November when 16 more men will be made members.
Electing what the society termed "the eight intellectually most outstanding men, judging from their grades and from the recommendations of their tutors," the Harvard division of the national Phi Beta Kappa organization appointed the following Juniors: Robert S. Bart, Louis Hartz, Garfield H. Horn, Ward MacL. Hussey, George S. Kurland, Phil C. Neal, Paul Olum, and Stanley J. Sigel.
Bart, Hartz, and Horn Elected
Bart, of West Redding, Connecticut, and Eliot House, is a concentrator in History and Literature. He was graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1935 and now holds the Teschemacher Scholarship from Exeter.
Holding the George Augustus Sawyer Scholarship, Hartz in a Government concentrator. He is a member of the Harvard Student Union and two years ago was on the Freshman debating team. His home is in Omaha, Nebraska; and he is now living in Leverett House.
In addition to the office of editorial chairman of the CRIMSON, Horn, of Long Beach, California, and Winthrop House, is also managing editor of the "Guardian." In his Freshman year he was a member of the Triangular Debating Team; and the following year, he was awarded the Detur Prize for attaining Group I. His field of concentration is Economics.
Hussey Heads Guardian Staff
Coming from Chicago and now living in Lowell House, Hussey has charge of the "Guardian" in the office of editor-in-chief. He is also a member of the debating team and was graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy three years ago. History is his field of concentration. Kurland is a graduate of the Boston Latin School and is majoring in Economics.
Neal now holds the position of president of the Debating Council, is on the Junior Album Committee, the Student Council, and the Dunster House Committee. Coming from Oak Park, Illinois, he was graduated from High School there. Here he is concentrating in Government.
Vice-president of the Harvard Student Union and a member of the Mathematics Club, Olum, of Binghamton, New York, and Eliot House is concentrating in Mathematics. Sigel, of Portland, Me., is a member of the Avukah Society and is majoring in Economics.
