Winning seven out of eight matches, the Varsity grapplers outclassed M. I. T. last Tuesday to win by a lopsided 25 to 3 count. Tech's only points came from Power's decision over Bill Tyng, who was wrestling his second varsity bout.
Feature of the afternoon was Ted Schoenberg's 4:30 flattening of Bill Stone with a three-quarter nelson in the 126 pound division. Schoenberg, repeating his victory in Saturday's close Columbia meet, again showed his steady improvement as a first-string wrestler.
Gardiner Wins by Default
A shoulder injury to Dave Goodman of the Engineers gave Tudor Gardiner the heavyweight match by default. However, the outcome of the bout was already determined, since the Crimson wrestler was on top from the start until the default at 7:40.
As usual Captain Harvey Ross gave his team a head start when he took a decision from the Tech captain John Vyberberg in the opening 121 pound tilt. After Schoenberg's win, Lou Daily and Art Page took their 135 and 145 pound encounters.
Bunny Barnes in the 165 atoned for Bill Tyng's loss, while Dunc Longcope in a brilliant wrestling match defeated M. I. T.'s John Vanderpool in the 175 class.
Yardling's Victory Spectacular
Even more decisive than the Varsity win was the Yardling matmen's 35 to 5 swamping of the Tech freshmen. Massive Vern Miller in the unlimited division scored his usual win with a 5:5 half-nelson. Six falls and a decision accounted for the Yearlings' points. Ev Clement's defeat prevented a shutout.
