Led by Captain Bill Daughaday in the 165-pound class, a Varsity wrestling team with possibilities of becoming one of the best Crimson aggregations in recent years meets Tech's grapplers this afternoon at Hangar Gym.
Besides Daughaday only two lettermen, Ted Schoenberg in the 128-pound class and Pete Illman at 155, will be wrestling, but there is a potential gold mine in the new material.
Three Sophomores
Three members of last year's Freshman team, Harry Blaine, Ray Stone, and Dick Thomas will fight in the lighter brackets. Blaine takes over the 121-pound class vacated by the graduation of last year's captain. Harvey Ross, and Stone gets the call at 135-pounds after defeating Al Richter in a close tryout Thursday afternoon.
Thomas, captain and outstanding wrestler of the Yardlings last winter, will be fighting for the Crimson at 145. One of the best intra-squad matches of the year is going to be between Thomas and Bruce Richardson, last year's incumbent in the 145-pound position, but Richardson has been laid up this week with a sprained shoulder.
Lewis at 175
Dick Lewis, a Senior who was the star of his Freshman team three years ago but who has not wrestled for the Varsity since, defeated three tough rivals, Dunc Longcope, Dick Aldrich, and Bart Brown, to get the 175 post.
Tudor Gradiner, who combines managing with his fighting, will fill the shoes of Chief Boston at heavyweight.
An untried and unexperienced group of Yardlings will take on the Tech Freshmen in a preliminary match. Knox at 155 and Ackerman at 165 are the two most likely prospects.
