With four Sophomores and a Senior on the first line, the Varsity basketball team went through a tough scrimmage yesterday afternoon with a Law School quintel, organized by George F. (Red) Lowman '38, Crimson star of two years ago.
Captain Charley Lutz at forward was the only one of the Varsity starting five who did not play for last year's speedy Yardling outfit as Will Webber at the other forward post, Bud Finegan at center, and Joe Romano and Ed Buckley at the guards made up the rest of the first team.
Lowman's team consisted of Jack Dampier '38 and Bob Osborn of Holy Cross at the guards, Bon Kerr of Okinhoma at center, and Lloyd Olson of Virginia and Lowman at the forwards.
The second team in yesterday's practice was composed of Chet Legg and Lee Bird, forwards; Homer Peabody, center; and Bobby James and Johnny Rigby guards.
The Varsity, with only two more drills left before the opening game with a tough Tech team Tuesday evening, has been spending the week in drill on fundamentals interspersed with intra-squad scrimmages.
The Engineers triumphed on their home court last year by a 20 to 24 score, but two years ago, playing on the Indoor Athletic Building floor as they will be Tuesday night, the Crimson swamped their Cambridge neighbors, 58 to 33.
