SARGEANT FORCED TO QUIT BECAUSE OF BAD HEADACHES

It was announced yesterday that the football squad has lest the services of Ernie Sergeant, aggressive watch arm guard. On the advice of Harvard doctors, the diminutive Senior was forced to cut short his grid activities because of recurring headaches.

Sargeant has been bothered by headaches most of the fall, and his final decision to give up football was made shortly after the Princeton game. Although he received no bumps in that tilt, his headaches returned, and the doctors decided not to run the risk of his getting a serious jolt later in the schedule.

Dick Harlow immediately drafted George Downing from the rapidly improving end squad and converted him into a guard. The loss of Sargeant left the guard positions slightly undermanned, and the big Senior end should bolster up this point.

It is Downing's first crack at a guard job, although he has played every other position on the line except center. In prep school and as a Freshman he was at tackle; he was an end his Sophomore year and a tackle his Junior year. This fall he was an end up until yesterday afternoon.

Torbie Drills

Captain Torbie Macdonald again participated in a full workout and appeared to be ready for some action against the Army. Spreyer, however, is a certain starter at tailback, and the rest of the backfield is unchanged. Hank Vander Eb and Fran Lee were at A team berths yesterday but only because Bill Coleman and Joe Gardella were not fully recovered from some Princeton bumps and bruises. George Heiden remained at the bucking post.

Mose Hallett took part in all of the work, but he is still a doubtful participant against the Cadets. Joe Koufman jogged, but is almost definitely out of the fray. However, in Loren MacKinney, Jim Devine, and Gene Lovett the team has three good flankmen. Lovett and Devine are currently fighting it out for the starting right end berth. Chub Peabody and Don Lowry are also rated about even at left guard.
