More Attend Morning Chapel As Sunday Attendance Drops

"Attendance this year at Sunday services has been down slightly while daily morning prayers have risen appreciably in popularity," said Deen Willard L. Sperry, Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Professor of Homiletics as he released the figures for church attendance yesterday.

Last year from September 24 to October 31 no less than 2520 students attended morning chapel, while 3791 went to Sunday Services at Memorial Church.

This year over approximately the same period, from September 23 to October 31, 2925 students have attended morning chapel at Appleton Chapel, and the figures for Sunday services have amounted to 3523.

With a total of 6311 church goers last year and a total of 6573 this year, the total church attendance has risen by 203. 465 more students have attended morning services this year than last year; 263 less students have been to Sunday services than last year.

Attendance in the new chapel has been far above that of old Appleton Chapel, which was destroyed in 1931. Approximately 50,000 people attend services at Memorial Church every year.
