NEW HAVEN, Connecticut Harold Bartlett Whiteman, Jr., of Nashville, Tennessee, a left halfback, today was unanimously chosen captain of Yale's 1940 football team.

Whiteman, 19, is one of the youngest of Yale's captains, A six-footer, weighing 185 pounds, he is a Junior who prepped at Taft School, Waterbury, Connecticut, played on Yale's Freshman team and won his letter as a blocking back last year.

Robert Hapgood, a Senior, of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, was awarded the Norman Hall Trophy as the outstanding member of Yale's Junior Varsity team.
