BOOTERS BEAT YALE ON MENDEL'S SCORE

Soccer Captain Howle Mendel personally took care of beating Yale yesterday afternoon as he scored the winning goal, his sixth tally against the Elis in three years, in the last four minutes of the final game of his Harvard career, to gain a 2 to 1 victory.

Up to that time a surprising Crimson eleven had fought the favored Elis to a standstill, and, except for the first 30 seconds, had outplayed them. The booters put on their best showing of the year in upsetting the strong Bulldog squad.

Passing Improve

Improved passing, spectacular success in their combination plays, and a general tightening up of weakness all along the line accounted for the Crimson's win, the third in which the Seniors and the present team have participated.

Art Page was the other Harvard here, trying to score with a sizzling goal after five minutes of the first period and making up for the Eli goal scored inside the first minute of the game. This was Page's sixth score of the year, and he finished the season the leading Crimson scorer.

Mendel's sensational goal was his third shot in the last quarter of the game, but the other two had been stopped by Poole, star Eli goalie. The winning tally was a shot that no goalie could have saved, a whistling liner from about ten yards away that slid into a corner of the net.

The game started with a seemingly disastrous goal by Haine, Blue outside left, who took the ball from the center kick, carried it to the goal, and booted it in. It looked simple, but from that time on, Harvard's goalie, Jack Penson, had the situation well in hand, and he completely stopped the highly touted Erickson.

Two factors which contributed largely to the Crimson upset were the starring play of Lew Vorley at inside left and of Roger Oresman at right fullback.
