A waitress in the Harvard Freshman Dining Hall, Mrs. Evelyn Bailey, has been in the hands of immigration authorities since her arrest late Friday night at the conclusion of a seven year search.
Mrs. Bailey, whose maiden name was Reese, has been working in the Union for two years under the name of Allen. She is being held by police and federal officials charged with violation of immigration regulations.
Eludes Arrest
After entering this country illegally from Barbados in 1924, she was not picked up by police until 1932 in Chicago. At that time she was given three months to prepare for her departure, but she eluded the police and has been among the wanted for seven years.
The 38-year-old ex-waitress, who is facing deportation to the British West Indies, where she has a husband and a sixteen-year old daughter, is being held at the Immigration Office in East Boston pending her hearing before the Federal Board.
Miss Mary Ward, head of the Immigration Office, said Saturday that Mrs. Bailey would probably be simply deported and that her reasons for her remaining in this country had not been ascertained.
