How Cambridge’s Political Power Brokers Shape the 2025 Election
Harvard's candidate for the Cambridge City Council, Albert L. Maguire '40, last night called for a shake-up in the city government, in a strong appeal for University support in the final election next Tuesday.
Pointing to the lack of cooperation among the Cambridge welfare boards, the self-styled "next city councilor from Ward?" demanded reforms "to bring order out of the chaos in the civil service."
Haven Parker, Maguire's opponent, led the former second-string varsity football player by a large margin in the primaries. James H. Cunningham, the runner up in the primaries, recently jumped aboard the Maguire bandwagon, so he feels he has "a fifty-fifty chance of winning the election."
Embarrassed in the primaries because of lack of funds and poor organization, Maguire last night appealed for more student canvassers and poll workers.
