Guarded by a cordon of police cars, Yard proctors, and Colonel Charles R. Apiod, an American Legion auxiliary unit and band marched bravely and unmolested down Massachusetts Avenue past the Yard early last night.
It was just a year ago to the day that four members of the Class of 1942 were arrested by Cambridge bluecoats for "disturbing the peace and breaking up a public demonstration." The surprised Yardlings, were later acquitted, but not before a statewide hue and cry had been raised over the supposed riot they caused.
Last night, however, College and City authorities were taking no chances. Squad cars with cops on the running boards protected the parade at each end, while Yard proctors covered the flanks, shooing would-be demonstrators off the sidewalks.
