STUDENT COUNCIL HAS LARGEST FUND PLEDGE

After its first meeting of the year the Student Council last night announced the collection for its Budget of the largest sum since 1931. During the three days of registration the Council collected $4,578.75 in cash and obtained $4,099 in pledges, a total of $8677.75.

Compared to last year when a total of $5,041 was collected, the cash sum is above average. Douglas Mercer '40, Council Treasurer, said that a drive would be made to collect pledges by a November 30 deadline, with pledges payable to the Harvard Student Council in Phillips Brooks House any time until then.

Chairmaned by Mercer the Council's Scholarship Committee will consist of Blair Clark '40, James D. Lightbody '40, and William L. Healy '41. This group annually awards more than $1,000 in aid to students who are not eligible for University help.

Harvey C. Taylor '42 was chosen the Council's Adviser on Freshman Affairs, and George A. Kuhn '42 was placed in charge of Yardling inter-dormitory athletics. Taylor was chairman of last year's Jubilee and Kuhn ran the Smoker.

Phil C. Neal '40, Council President, announced that an officer of the Council would hold regular office-hours in Phillips Brooks House from 9 to 10 o'clock every morning, at which time students are invited to bring up business.
