YOUNG, FINN, OYEN GET BLISS AWARDS FOR U.S. HISTORY

Richard B. Finn '39, Henry D. Oyen '41, and Kenneth T. Young, Jr. '39, have been awarded the William H. Bliss awards for extra-curricular study of American history, Howard M. Jones, Professor of English, and chairman of the Harvard Committee for Extra-Curricular Study of American History announced yesterday.

As a result of their showing in a prize examination, testing the first of three grades of progress in the reading list, each of the students has been given a $50 prize.

Ordinarily only one prize of $100 is given for this examination, but because of the excellence of the three leading papers, the prize amount was increased to $150 and divided evenly between the winners, Professor Jones said.

Next Exam April 15

The next competitive examination for students under the program, covering the second grade of progress in the reading, will be given on April 15. Two prizes, of $100 and $50, will be offered for the best papers.

Students interested in the voluntary program and in the examinations are urged to consult one of the Counselors in American History in the House or at the Freshmen Union about the regulations governing the examinations, Professor Jones announced.
