Concluding a mediocre season, the Yardling nine Saturday dropped an 8-3 decision to the Yale Freshmen at New Haven. It was the Samborski team's eleventh defeat in 18 starts.
Captain Joe Wood of the victors, son of the Eli coach, held the Crimson to six hits and fanned 11 to end a successful Yale season. It wasn't until the sixth inning, that the Yardlings were able to break into the scoring column with a two run rally. In the ninth, they added their third and final tally of the game.
Jack Schwede and Charlie Brackett, pitching for the Crimson, allowed 12 hits and but four walks, as their teammates were guilty of only a single error in the field. The Elis scored four runs in the second frame, two in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth.
Crimson Freshmen who played in the letter-awarding game were: Hartstone, Keyes, Tully, Davis, Lovett, Cutler, Helman, Regan, Liverance, Schwede, Brackett, Gordon, Avergun, Kurtz, and Thorndike. Only three of the starting lineup were on the first team of the high school or preparatory school they attended a year ago.
