NYT Journalist Maggie Haberman Weighs In on Trump’s White House, Democratic Strategy at Harvard Talk
"It may look strange to us for a while to see our athletes attired in something closely resembling underwear," Miss Mildred Madden observes shyly in the current issue of the Radcliffe News, but her article goes on to give whole-hearted endorsement to the new gymnasium outfit to be put into effect next fall by the R. A. A.
Denouncing the old uniform of bloomer and shirt which has served generations of Radcliffe girls as being "somewhat outmoded," Miss Madden, who is style expert on The News, declares that the new attire combines smartness with economy.
Next year's athletes, according to the article, will go onto basketball court and hockey arena clad in pleated shorts with zipper fastenings and shirts with pearl buttons. Not only will this uniform be more becoming, it is argued, but it will be several dollars cheaper.
As in the past, Harvard's co-eds will go into battle dressed in maroon from head to knee. Apart from the fact that the H. A. A. is also retaining this color for their uniforms, there seem to be two reasons for this choice. First, maroon looks well "even on red-heads," Miss Madden thinks. And secondly, it makes a wonderful background for the big R awarded for participation in varsity sports.
Concluding on a note of brimming optimism, Miss Madden states that "future Radcliffe athletes should present a smooth appearance on any field."
