In his column, "This New York," in the New York Herald Tribune, Saturday Lucius Beebe '27 characterized Roger D. Laphan '40 as "the dressiest of the current collegiate generation."
Lapham, a resident of Levereett House and a member of the Hasty Pudding and Phoenix SK clubs, was pointed out by the columnist as being one of the forerunners of the new vogue in dinner jackets because his contained brilliant maroon lapels.
When questioned concerning the article, Lapham admitted reluctantly that he had read it. "It was more of a surprise to me than anyone else," he added ruefully.
He quickly denied that he got any of his ideas for novel clothes from Esquire, saying, "Not Esquire, decidedly not! I don't get my clothes from anywhere in particular, but from everywhere in general."
