Euripides' Alcestis in New Translation Scheduled for Sanders Theatre Tonight

Berssenbrugge Director of Poet's Theater Group Production of Greek Tragedy

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Alcestis and Admetus will live again tonight in Sagders Theatre, and Alcestis will die, as the Poet's Theatre presents a new English version of Euripides' tragedy in the first of three performances.

Translated from the Greek by Dudley Fitts '25 and Robert Fitzgerald '33, the production will be directed by William Berssenbrugge '37, who recently returned from England to take up the task. Dorothy Sands and Michael Linenthal '37 will appear in the leading roles.

Malcoim Holmes '28, aided and abetted by a group from the Pierian Sodality and a chorus of Radcliffe girls is handling the musical end of the production.

Losses Patience

He occasionally loses patience with the chorus. At a rehearsal early this week he laid down his baton and said. "How can you look at me and your music at the same time? The answer is no." A couple of Radcliffe girls in the back row kept on with their knitting.

On the whole rehearsals have been quiet and orderly. Lawrence O'Donnell and Betty Davis who play Admetus' children go through their scene like little lambs. They're a little smug about their first stage appearance, though.

Cast in Supporting Roles

Cast in supporting roles are L. John Pront, Margaret, White, Robert de Lany, Robert Nichols '41, Allan Downer 4G. Redney Whitman, Walter M. Perkins '41, W. Russell Rowie, Jr., '41, and Westmore Wilcox '41.
