High Flying Nine, Crew Meet Crucial Tests This Week

150 Pounders Will Face Tigers In Princeton Race Next Weekend

When the Big Red of Cornell sweeps its mighty strokes through the Charles next Saturday, Spike Chace and the Crimson oarsmen are going to have their hands full trying to retain an undefeated title. The Tech men will be in there too, but their eight-length defeat by Harvard on Lake Carnegie proves they will not even count.

The Cornell eight which Tom Bolles has characterized as "always a good crew" tossed its hat into the championship ring by coming within 10 feet of Navy, Coach Walsh's Middies proved to be the Crimson nemesis last season, and with practically the same crew intact this year they may well upset Harvard on the Severn, May 21.

Syracuse's husky boat which trailed in the Crimson wake on Saturday by a length and a quarter will take another spin on the Charles this weekend, but by this time the Bollesmen have the Orange stroke well measured and may easily beat them by a larger margin.

Syracuse To Race

With two weeks of hard workouts Cornell will be primed for victory over Harvard. They have already pulled away from Syracuse, and comparative distances show that the home swingers will have to put a lot more power in their first half-mile if they are to take the big Red and drive on to conquer Navy in the following race.

150-Pounders Now at Princeton

Bert Haines' 150-pound Varsity crew is a snappy little eight which proved its merit against M. I. T. over a week ago and which will meet its acid test in the A. R. A. Regatta at Princeton this weekend.

The Tiger Fifties were the only home oarsmen who swept Lake Carnegie on Saturday and offer the most serious challenge to the Crimson. But stroke Vince Bailey and his seven sweepers will have had two whole weeks of solid workouts and have a better than even chance to win.
