Thayer smothered Weld 17 to 5 yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field to tie Matthews for first place in the Freshman Softball League.

John Fisher starred on the mound for Thayer by striking out twelve men, and in the second inning he took advantage of a long drive so as to score a home run on an error.
