House Teams Meet in Baseball, Tennis, and Softball

Kirkland faltered in inter-House competition yesterday as the Deacons dropped their first contest in any spring sport; the Lowell golfers trounced them 6 to 3.

But in baseball and tennis the Kirkland athletes triumphed, edging Adams 7 to 6 in the ball game, and trimming Leverett in tennis. And at that it was the first time this season a Deacon racquetman has lost an individual match.

In the other hard ball game Leverett toppled Eliot 15-11, and in soft ball Dunster outslugged Winthrop 16 to 11 and Lowell trampled the Ramblers 18 to 2.

Ross, Williams Pitch for Deacons

For the Deacon baseballers Put Williams and Charley Ross split the mound work. Marty Evers collected three hits and Ernie Smith doubled with the bases loaded in the fifth frame. Charley Ruch pitched for the losers, and second-sacker John Eaton poled two homers.

Hendrick De Kruif and Hausserman shared the slab in the Leverett-Eliot game. The teams got almost as many errors as hits, and several outfielders fell asleep. Steve Madey was not on the Eliot mound, but led his team at bat.

Finn Pitches

Phil Finn pitched the Funsters to victory over an under-manned Winthrop outfit as Fred Pamp and Walter McKain led at the plate. Gitt and Bob Stuart pitched for the losers, and John Butler did some good hitting.

Dampeer and Doering pitched for the victors in the Lowell-Dudley slaughter, as Geraghty and Murphy hit homers.

Tomorrow Bill Thomas's Independents, an aggregation of House ball players, faces Adolph Samborski's Yardling team. Woody Woodward is slated to pitch, Bobby Gorham to catch. Others who will play are Peter Pratt, Arthur Page, Ralph Doran, Sam Merrill, Bartow Kelley, John Eaton, and Harris Squibb.
