Sixteen members of the Varsity track and field team will compete in New York tonight in the annual I. C. A. A. A. A. Indoor Championships. Seven of them are Sophomores.
The following men have been named by Coach Jaakko Mikkola to make the trip:
One Mile Relay: Joseph Donnelly '41. Torbert MacDonald '40, Tudor Richards '38, James Lightbody '40.
Two Mile Relay: Alfred Hanlon '39, Jack McClure '39 Joseph Bradley '39, Alex Northrup '38.
Shot Put: George Downing '40, Howard Mendel '40.
Pole Vault: Marshall Maclsaac '40, Winslow Pettingell '39.
35 lb. Weight Throw: Steve Brennan '38, William Shallow '40.
High Jump: Robert Haydock '39.
High Hurdles: Mason Fernald '40.
The above men were chosen largely on the basis of their performance in last Saturday's Quadrangular Meet. Jaakko hopes to bring home another victory for the mile relay team. Lightbody will be free to devote all his attention to his leg of the mile, since he does not have to also run the 600 as he did in the Quad Meet.
In the shot put too the Harvard contingent is strong. In the Quad Meet Downing and Mendel rated first and second.
