H. Shippen Goodhue '38 has been appointed Class Agent for the Harvard Fund on recommendation of the Senior Class officers, the Wadsworth House office of the Harvard Fund Council announced last night.
Goodhue, of Boston and Eliot House, prepared at Groton and has been assistant manager of his Freshman and Varsity football teams, editor of the Freshman Red Book, editorial chairman of the CRIMSON, and this year's author of the Undergraduate Week in the Alumni Bulletin.
Towards $100,000 Class Gift
The Harvard Fund, of which G. Peabody Gardner, Jr. '10 is chairman, and Paul C. Cabot '21, vice-chairman, was founded in 1925 to secure voluntary subscriptions from the alumni. Money raised by the Fund is unrestricted in purpose, but all contributions by classes not yet 25 years out are credited toward the traditional $100,000 gift presented to the college by each at its 25th anniversary.
Following the 12 year old policy of soliciting the Seniors before graduation, Goodhue will ask his classmates for voluntary gifts which will be deposited toward their 25th reunion presentation in 1963. Goodhue's letters will be mailed after Spring Vacation to all members of the class.
The Council, which Goodhue is joining as the youngest class representative, includes 65 agents, among whom are such men as Bishop William Lawrence '71, Judge Robert Grant '73, Charles C. Burlingham '79, John L. Saltonstall '00, John Richardson '08, Robert T. P. Storer '14, and Forrester A. Clark '29.
Assistant Dean E. Francis Bowditch '35, F. Stanton Deland, Jr. '36, and John B. Bowditch '37 were the last three agents.
