Eli swordsmen out-fenced the Crimson varsity team Saturday afternoon, taking all three weapons to win easily by a score of 16 1/2 to 10 1/2 at the Indoor Athletic Building.
Starring for the Blue were Captain Maurice Grasson, son of their Coach Robert Grasson, with three strong wins in the foil and Phil Viscidi with another three in the sabre. Two match winners for the New Haven boys were Bill Randall, Calboun, and Barthel in the epee and Streeter in the foil.
Best Crimson records were Al Labastie's two wins in the foil, Batchelder's two in the sabre, and Croach's two wins and a tie in the epee. The Varsity's closest attempt to a win was in the sabre which they dropped by only one point; the epee went to Yale 5 1/2 to 3 1/2, and the foil was a 6 to 3 sweep for the Elis.
This week the Freshmen outdid their Varsity elders by downing the New Haven cubs in a closer meet 15 to 12. The Crimson looked best in the foil which they took with an easy 6 to 3 score, led by Johnson's three wins.
Closer was the epee but even Warson's three victories were not enough to save it for the Elis as Brua and Gilkey turned it against them by a 5 to 4 tally. In the sabre, the Elis eked out a 5 to 4 win thanks to the nice swords play of Isaacs and Mims, who overshadowed the Crimson contingent of Wright, Alberts, and Baff.
