With Spring scheduled to make its formal appearance Monday neither the gods of weather nor the University seems to be taking much cognizance of the event. Cold is predicted by the weather bureau. Reached last night, local authorities could not set a definite date for the reopening of the Yard Pump, Harvard's official recognition of the new season.
The pump, it will be remembered, was put out of action, its water turned off and spigot removed on November 1, 1937.
On the other hand the Arnold Arboretum reported the sighting of a robin some time ago and added the comment that several others had probably been seen but that robins are so irregular in their date of return as not to fit reliably the harbinger role.
