Franklin D. Roosevelt, '04, and Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., '24, senator from Massachusetts, are among those who have sent letters of endorsement to the newly formed Harvard Congress, it was revealed yesterday.
The President, in his letter, said that democracy is a "government of public opinion," and that "a forum for free and untrammeled discussion of public questions" is one of the essentials of any democracy. He further stated that the Harvard Congress "has within it the possibility of exerting a powerful influence in aiding its members in their preparation for citizenship and useful public activity."
Senator Lodge said that he believed "the student body might derive much advantage from a discussion of national problems such as would come before your Congress."
The third session of the Harvard Congress will be held on Tuesday at Adams House and will deal with the Ludlow Peace Amendment.
