KENDALL SETS RECORD AS SWIMMERS WIN, 60-15

NINTH STRAIGHT VICTORY BOASTS FEW FAST TIMES

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Bill Kendall smashed the national record for the 440-yard free style in a 20-yard pool last night as the swimming team swamped Springfield, 60 to 15. Kendall's time was 4:46.4.

Charlie Hutter's natators swept all the firsts as they hung up their ninth straight win of the season. Dario Berizzi ranked next to Kendall as outstanding performer when he was clocked at 2:28 in the 200-yard breaststroke. This betters his fastest official time by some three seconds.

None of the other times were startling. Saving himself for his triumphant effort in the 440, Kendall coasted to an easy victory in the 220-yard free style with a time of 2:23.6. His team-mates seem to have taken advantage of weak opposition in order to relax a bit. Add to this their lack of acquaintance with a 20-yard pool, and the clockings, a bit slow for the Crimson mermen, are not surprising.

The summaries:

300-yard medley relay: First; Harvard (Cummin, Berizzi, McKay). Time 2:59.4.
