Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
At a general business meeting held in Lowell House Common Room last night, the Debating Council selected new officers and outlined plans for the coming season.
The following officers were elected: Lawrence Forrest Ebb '39, president; Phil Caldwell Neal '40, vice-president; Paul Whiten Cherington '40, vice-president; Malcolm Richard Wilkey '40, treasurer.
Ebb of Dorchester and Lowell House is the former secretary-treasurer of the organization and participated in last year's H-Y-P debates. Neal of Oak Park, Illinois and Dunster House, was president of the Freshman Debating Society last year and a member of the Union Committee.
Cherington is from New York and is a resident of Lowell House. Wilkey of Madisonville, Kentucky and Adams House, is the advertising manager of the Harvard Guardian.
Future Plans Announced
During the next semester a chance will be provided for each member of the Council to take part in at least one intercollegiate debate.
Some of the coming debates are those with M.I.T., Middlebury, and William Jewell, and intra-Council exhibitions before the Roslindale and Newton Kiwanis. Debates with Vassar, Brown, and Williams will probably be broadcast.
The teams for the Yale and Princeton debates will be selected on the basis of a competition among members of the Council to be held later in the year.
Changes in Officers' Duties
The position of publicity Officer was abolished and these duties were transfered to the secretary. The treasurer was charged with scheduling intra-Council extension debates.
At present the Council numbers forty-three members, the largest it has ever been in its history.
