EIGHT MEN WIN PLACES ON DEBATING COUNCIL

Eight men qualified for the University Debating Council after trials yesterday afternoon, it was announced by Secretary Lawrence F. Ebb '39.

Chosen by Edward M. Rowe '27, Director of Debating, were: Arthur Cantor '40, Stanley Epstein '39, Ward Dussey '40, Enno Hobbing '40, Sterling Kenneth '40, Stanley Kapner '40, Sherman J. Maisel '39, and Robin Scully '40.

During the fall season the Council held fifteen debates, leaving a record of five victories against Brown, Dartmouth, Norfolk, and Melbourne. Defeats were suffered at the hands of Holy Cross, Yale and Williams.

Although the spring schedule has not been released, is understood that a team from Vassar will visit Harvard next month to debate the merit of women jurors.

Most of the debates will be on the administration's naval expansion, the New Deal's program of business regulation, compulsory labor administration, and the problem of women jurors.

This has been one of the busiest and most successful years in the Council's history. At the present time it is composed of a squad of thirty-five debaters in addition to those who turned out yesterday. Its strength has enabled it to extend its activities to the radio, which has already carried two of its debates.
