1941 PUCKSTERS EDGE EXETER AT ARENA, 6-5

Matching Exeter goal for goal in a fast third period that saw seven tallies hit the nets, a fighting Yardling sextet downed the prepsters for their tenth victory, 6-5 yesterday afternoon at the Arena.

Both teams used a five-man offense throughout the entire game, carrying the puck up and down the ice at a fast clip. The Freshmen broke into the scoring column first with a goal by Captain Prentie Willetts on a pass from Stacey Hulse after three minutes of the opening frame had elapsed.

Hulse Drops Two

Immediately, Thompson, Exeter defenseman, evened the count, and the visitors went ahead a moment later when Sloane, at right wing flicked a close in shot past Goalie George Hanford.

The scoring let up in the second and third periods, but two minutes along in the final frame, the Hulse-to-Willetts combination scored again. Then Hulse added another o a quick breakaway from the boards. Exeter retaliated on a drive by Dan Stuckey, Red and Gray center.

No Penalties

The first 1941 line Sank its last tally on a long scorcher by Hulse from the center of the rink that whipped through Katzenback, enemy goalie. Coach Hodder at this point inserted his reserves. Exeter, with three seconds to go, made her fifth marker against the new lineup.

Although no penalties were called, the contest was rough, marked by frequent hard checking and pileups in front of both goals. The Yardlings had more scoring chances than the Exonians, but were unable to capitalize on many of them.

Freshmen Work Together

The Crimson worked together smoothly, displaying a good deal of spirit and fight. No individual performers stood out, although Hulse, with two goals and two assists, was high point man of the day.

Other Freshman scores besides Willetts and Hulse were Larry Butt and Gale Burton. Bob Cox at center and Sam Gray at defense were the other starters.
