TO TENDER REFUGEE DRIVE PRECEDENCE

As Senator David I. Walsh joined in the rising college and public support of an Undergraduate plan to bring 15 Latin American students to Harvard, the special student committee in charge announced last night that it will not launch its campaign until the German Refugee drive has had "ample opportunity to round out its program."

In a formal statement the plan's sponsors, nucleus of The Independents, said: "We feel that our campaign at this time is a necessary complement to the worthy drive now being conducted in behalf of German refugee students."

Will Give Refugee Chance

The seven Juniors on the committee agreeing to allow time for the completion of the German campaign before the beginning their own, plan to begin solicitation before the next semester. They added: "These two programs of international student aid should together implement a new phase of enlightened scholarship."

Establishing stipends for 15 Pan Americans here "will undoubtedly lead in the future to a system of exchanges with universities of South and Central America under a permanent endowment fund," they stated.

We plan to extend the program on a national scale, co-operating with the committee on education of the International conference at Lime, Peru, and to cultivate a wider understanding of political, economic and social aspects which the Americas have in common.
