Immediate action on proposals of Cordell Hull and Alf M. Landon for close academic as well as political cooperation with Pan-American countries was taken last night when a committee of seven Undergraduates was formed to raise money for 15 exchange scholarships at Harvard.

Seizing the opportunity presented by the opening of the international conference in Lima, Peru, the Pan-American Scholarship Committee, backed by the Harvard Independents, announced a concerted drive along the lines laid down by the German Refugee Campaign.

Organizations Enthusiastic

In spite of the suddenness of the move six members of the Faculty and an equal number of Student and Cambridge organizations immediately endorsed the plan which aims to promote peace and solidarity among the nations of the Western Hemisphere.

The following, all Juniors, are members of the Committee: Archibald B. Roosevelt Jr. Robert Homans Donald McD. Thurber, Ralph H. Cutler, Jr., Arthur Iselin, Jr., T. Ridgway Macy, Jr., and Alexandre W. G. de Pourtales.

Support has been promised from the following members of the Faculty: Howard M. Jones, professor of English; Pitirim A. Sorokin, professor of Sociology; Taylor Starck, associate professor of German; Louis J. A. Mercier, associate professor of French and Education; Michael Karpovitch, assistant professor of History; and Aurelio M. Espinosa, instructor in Romance Languages.

Sullivan a Backer

Besides the Independents, aid has been pledged by the Memorial Society and the St. Paul's Catholic Club. Cambridge Councilman Michael Sullivan affirmed last night that he would ask the City Council to support the move. The American Legion's branch in Cambridge and the local Ladies' Democratic Club were enthusiastic about the proposal.
