With the 1938-39 season drawing near, the Varsity squash team is taking form as squash Coach Barnaby and Assistant-Coach Dorson chose their men from the results of the tournament now being held.
In addition to Captain George Blake '39, other standouts are Frank Appleton, '39, Kim Canavarro '40, Dan Ladd '41, Jim Rousmaniere '40, and Warren Williams '39. In the opinion of Dorson, Canavarro has the greatest possibilities among these men.
The season ahead includes the regular games with the members of the Boston Squash League, as well as intercollegiate competition with Yale and Princeton. Since the former league is dominated by the Union Boat Club and the Harvard Club, Harvard has not won the league title for about six years.
Up to date the team has twice met bad luck: first, when Appleton was forced to quit practice several days on account of sickness, and then again when Dan Ladd sprained his ankle in practice.
Other men of possible Varsity calibre are Cunningham, Howe, Harven, Ladd, Richardson, Shaw, and Wood. Beside the men already mentioned there are many other Sophomore, Junior and Senior aspirants.
