New Littauer Building to Replace Hemenway

Demolition of Gymnasium to Start Monday, Durant Says

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hemenway Gymnasium has begun its last week, according to an announcement yesterday that it will be torn down starting Monday to make room for the Littauer School.

Scheduled for completion in January, 1939, construction on the new building will start early in March, Business Manager Aldrich Durant said yesterday. Ground will be broken for the new Hemenway building, to stand between Gannett House and Walter Hastings Hall on Massachusetts Avenue, about March 15. The building will probably be ready for use next September.

No construction contracts have been let at this point, Durant said. Trees are being removed from the vicinity of Hemenway for transplanting before excavation starts.
