CALL FOR '41 GRID MANAGERS

This year's competition for Freshman football manager begins on Wednesday, September 29, at 2 o'clock in the Varsity Club.

Long recognized as one of the most worthwhile Freshman extra-curricular activities, the competition will, this year, be relieved of most of the tiresome indoor work which was formerly done by the Freshmen. The resultant decrease in time spent on the job will give the candidate plenty of time for College duties.

The competition will consist of outdoor work with the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman teams, while in addition one or two men will work in the Varsity locker room during practice. The assignments and duties of the candidates will be changed daily to accustom them to the different duties.

On game days most of the candidates work in the Stadium on the Varsity game while others work on the Freshman game. Usually one or two men go on all Freshman trips.

The competition will end on the night of the Army game, November 6, giving the selected manager and his assistants a week to prepare for the Yale Freshman game at Cambridge. The manager is awarded his major numerals. In the Sophomore year five men are retained from all those who competed as Freshmen and the winner of this competition automatically succeeds to the managership in his Senior year. In addition a Junior Varsity and a Freshman manager are picked, both of whom receive a minor letter.

Freshmen will find that this competition affords an excellent means of getting to know members of their class as well as upperclassmen and coaches, and that everyone who competes receives training in businesslike methods of work and has a chance to get a lot more out of college than many men do.

While the football manager ranks as Dean of student managers, competitions for the position of Freshman manager will be held in all sports where there are organized teams. These competitions bring the Freshman in contact with the Varsity as well as Freshman players. For additional news of extra-curricular activities see page 12.
