Four Crews Triumph Over Rutgers, Tech---Baseball Teams Defeated

Fifth inning wildness on the part of pitcher Ed Ingalls cost the Varsity ball-men a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Holy Cross in Worcester Saturday. The Crimson hurler gave four of his nine free tickets in that session, and these passes coupled with an error and a hit gave the Crusaders all the runs they needed.

The Mitchellmen made a great bid in the ninth inning, which but for a bad break, might have deadlocked the encounter. With two down, Al Colwell drove out his second hit of the day, a smash through third base. Dave Shean followed with his third bingle, advancing Don Prouty, running for Colwell to third.

Here came the freak of fortune which spelled defeat for the Crimson. Bob Gannett batting for Ingalls, drove out a hit along the third base line. The ball struck the bag, bouncing back into the infield. What should have been a two-bagger and might have scored Shean with the tying run was only a single, and when hurler Bruninghaus tossed out Art Johns, the game was over.

The Crimson outhit the Crusaders 11 to 6, and no opponent was able to get more than one bingle off Ingalls. Outstanding on defense was Captain Tom Bilodeau, who handled eight chances without a miscue and started a fast twin kill in the fourth to kill a Holy Cross rally.

Yardling Lose to Providence

Scoring once in the first and twice in each of the fourth and fifth innings, the Freshman ball team was well on its way to a victory over the Providence College Freshman nine at Providence Saturday. Three errors, two walks, and two hits, however, allowed the home team to cross the plate five times in the eighth canto and wrap up the encounter.

Yardling twirler John Woodward handed out free transpiration to thirteen opponents, and these, plus eight errors, caused the defeat. Samborski's outfit garnered six hits, two of which were two-base blows, by Bill Wood and Woodward. The team engineered two double assassinations during the encounter.

J.V.'s Take Measure of Bridgewater

Sole Crimson nine to triumph over the weekend was the J.V.'s who journeyed to Bridgewater and downed the State Teacher's College 7-5.
