FIFTY CREW LOSES TO YALE EIGHT AT DERBY

Crab Spoils Crimson Hopes Near Line After Thrilling Battle With Elis; Princeton Third

Toppled by Tech a week ago, what was one of the best hundred and fifty pound crews ever to wear the Crimson was defeated by the Yale eight Saturday in a heartbreaking race at Derby.

Rowing down the Housatonic River, the Crimson was close behind the Elis and apparently coming up on them, when two crabs were caught and sent Bert Haines' boat about a length and a half behind Yale. Princeton was third in the race.

It was a gloomy ending to what had appeared one of the brightest seasons; for Harvard in its early races twice beat Tech and once Columbia. At the Eight-Sided Regatta at Princeton a week ago the first disappointment came as Tech gained revenge on Harvard, winning by a narrow margin after they had an easy first heat and the Crimson had been forced to go all out against Yale in their heat.
