"The best atmosphere for students is where something is in the making," stated Harold Westergaard, newly appointed dean of the Engineering School, speaking before a meeting of the Engineering Society last night. "A university can do more for students if it is an intellectual center where arts and sciences flourish."

Stressing the point that his listeners had been here longer than he himself, Professor Westergaard talked briefly on Harvard's advantages for the student, as well as discussing present and projected research in the Engineering School.

Planned for next year is new work in testing materials and in aerodynamics, with two new men coming for these two fields. Study is going on at present in sanitary engineering and communications to mention only two of the laboratories now active.

Dean Westergaard will be the honor guest of the Boston Society at an afternoon and evening outing at the Weston Country Club Wednesday, May 26. There will be sports and a dinner, and both faculty and students are invited.
