VARSITY DIAMOND TEAM WILL FACE LIONS HERE AT 4

Mitchellmen Engage Lions for Second Time After Easy First Game Victory in New York

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Stacking up against an unpredictable Columbia nine, the Varsity team will play its second Eastern Intercollegiate League home game on Soldiers Field at 4 o'clock. Dick Walsh will be the starting twirler for the Crimson.

This is the second game with the Lions, the Mitchellmen having casily trimmed them in New York on the spring trip by a 14-1 score in seven innings. At that time Columbia looked like a very weak aggregation, but last week it upset all the dope by beating Princeton without much trouble, and Princeton overwhelmed Harvard.

Erratic Team

The Crimson, too, has proved to be a rather unstable nine this spring. It has shown flashes of real power, as it did in the ninth inning against Cornell, and then it has displayed some remarkably sloppy exhibitions. The pitching has not been all it might be and the only hurler to win any games has been Ed Ingalls. Walsh has started three previous contests, but in each was forced to retire. However, he is the type of pitcher who may at any time turn up with a nice performance.

With the situation such as it is, there can be no definite prediction for a Harvard victory. The team should grab the bacon if it displays any of its latent power, and then again Columbia may present an entirely different type of play than they did in the first struggle.

The Lineup

Coach Fred Mitchell will make only one change in his usual lineup, placing Sophomore Dick Grondahl back in left field, who was recently taken out in favor of Dave Shean. The starting team will be:

Johns, 2b

Lupien, 1b

Bilodeau, ss

Owen, 3b

Colwell, c

McTernan, cf

Sullivan, rf

Grondahl, lf

Walsh, p
