DUST BRUSHED OFF CLOCKS IN ASTRONOMY DEPARTMENT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In a spontaneous effort to overcome the temporal inertia of the Astronomy Department, an anonymous Yardling last week dug into the dust, which covers the numerous idle clocks of the Astronomy building. Of four installed in each of the two classrooms to keep students posted on the quartet of "times" used in astronomy, only one was going, Eastern Standard Time. Someone had forgotten to, or how to set the others.

The Department's watches are as variegated as they are numerous, including electric clocks, a vacuum clock, pendulum clocks, and two chronometers. Last week several of them saw action for the first time in two years, in spite of the prevailing confusion among Astronomy 1 students concerning Sidereal Time, Greenwich Civil, Local Apparent, Greenwich Apparent, and Mean Time.
