VARSITY NINE NEARLY LOSES THIRD BASEMAN SATURDAY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Missed train connections to Cornell almost deprived the Varsity baseball team of its regular third baseman last Saturday. Frank Owens rushed to the South Station Friday night to catch the Midnight to Syracuse, only to find that the rest of the ball team had left an hour earlier.

Undismayed by this slight miscalculation, and recognizing the fact that no other train would get to the fray in time, Owens turned to the aerial route. Catching the morning plane to New York and then carrying on to Elmira, Owens found he was still 40 miles from Ithaca. This distance was overcome by the opportune appearance of a friend in a car.

As the umpire screamed "Play Ball" the veteran hot corner guardian raced on the field in a slight degree of disarray, but ready for action.
