Harvard Entry Runnerup in Intercollege Shaving Meet

John L. Allen '39 Needs 19 Strokes, As Tiger Whipple Wins

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Outshaving five other contenders, John L. Allen '39, CRIMSON editor, finished second in the first Eastern Intercollegiate chin golf championship, held in New York during vacation.

A. O. Whipple, sensational Princeton bluebeard, won the trophy "that established shaving as an intercollegiate sport" when he needed only four razor swipes and a stroke penalty for cuts to go the full route.

Thirteen behind the Tiger, Allen barely nosed out the Big Green contender, David Berliner, who "gave him a close shave" with 22 strokes.

Radio Station WOR sponsored the event, which was broadcast over a coast-to-coast network. Entries were put up by the various college newspapers.
