Beginning immediately conferences to gather material for the Crimson's Confidential Guide to Fields of Concentration and Freshmen Courses will be held, continuing the practice of last year.
The same procedure used then in gathering material for the articles on the various fields will be used again this year. Letters have already been sent out to the heads of departments requesting that names of about 20 concentrators selected from the first five group of the rank list.
The concentrators thus carefully selected will then be invited to meet in the Crimson building and discuss courses, instructors, and tutors, and an editor of the paper will then write the article about the field, condensing the opinions expressed in the meetings. After the article has been written the facts, not the opinions, will be checked with the head of the department. The articles will be printed in the Crimson during the reading period, and later published in pamphlet form, to be available before the end of the year.
The articles on the fields of concentration contain reports on new men expected to teach next year, new courses to be offered, character of the tutorial work offered, and comments on the men in the field, with particular stress being laid upon their teaching, lecturing, general ability, and scholarship. Practical suggestions, which have often been taken up by the Departments in the past, are offered to improve the conduct of many of the larger courses.
Also incorporated in the pamphlet will be a detailed discussion of all courses regularly open to Freshmen, and in addition introductory notes and suggestions about such subjects as changing sections, auditing, outside activities, and the like.
