Dartmouth Winter Carnival to Be Scene Of Weekend Hockey, Swimming Contests

Emerging from a two-week's layoff during examination period, the Varsity swimming and hockey teams will swing into action with a bang tonight and tomorrow night respectively when they face the Hanover Indians of the famous Dartmouth Winter Carnival.

Interest will center around the Stubbs' sextet who will be attempting to stretch its victory string, started after a defeat at the Big Green's hands just a year ago, to sixteen straight wins. Betting odds still favor the Crimson pucksters, but the home team is given a better than fighting chance to reverse that decision because of their fine showing at the Boston Garden last months when Captain Ford saved the Harvard cause with two markers in the last period.

Oodles of Confidence

"Just as last year," noted Herb Gill, mentor of the Indians, "when we took the Harvard's 6-4 up here after loosing in Boston, I have oodles of confidence in my outfit for the coming week-end . . . . we'll profit by more complete watchfulness of Ford. After all", continued Gill, "isn't this a Dartmouth Carnival?"

Moved up to a berth at right wing on the first line, veteran Louis Carr is the only change in the Crimson lineup since the Princeton game before the long layoff. Coach Stubbs will start his smooth working pair of George Ford and Austie Harding as center and left wing respectively on the first line. Johnny Mechem has joined George Roberts and Neddie Cutter once more and perhaps now this line which went so well last year will start to function again. Joe Patrick will be flanked by Ralph Pope and Win Jameson on the third line.

Russ Allen and Traf Hicks will again open at the points in front of George Mahoney, the rapidly improving goalie. Gene Emerson and Joe Ecker are the defense replacements while Nort Kidder will be on hand for reserve duty in the nets.

Should Win

With one of the strongest swimming aggregations in several years, Coach Hal Ulen's mermen should be able to break the Hanover ice tonight and take the Green swimmers into camp by a score of at least 45-28. Paced by Olympic swimmer Charlie Hutter, and boasting such able performers as Graham Cummin and Dario Berizzi, the Cambridge invaders ought to signalize their first Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming meet of the season with a victory.

Ulen plans to enter the following men for the meet in Memorial Gymnasium Pool tonight.
