STUDENTS DONATE BATHING SUITS TO FLOOD SUFFERERS

Harvard students don't seem to be very imaginative when they turn to philanthropy. The Cambridge Chapter of the Red Cross, therefore, is a little irritated.

Close on the heels of the flood disasters in Ohio and Illinois, the local organization issued an appeal for contributions of money and clothes to aid the destitute and homeless. Harvard was very generous in its response; one undergraduate gave a check for $300, and together with the donations of less charitable or affluent colleagues, about $500 in cash and quite a few clothes were received.

This was all very nice; what peeved the Red Cross, however, was that among the serviceable items appeared several cast-off bathing suits and an old pair of crew trunks. The chapter has announced that the water is not fine in Ohio, and warmer clothes would be appreciated.
