FRESHMEN CHOOSE SIX NOMINEES FOR OFFICERS OF 1940

Five of Six Candidates Hold Posts on Union Committee; Other Activities Widely Diversified

In the primary election held yesterday in the Union, the Freshman Class chose six men as candidates for the final election to be held in the same place tomorrow afternoon.

The six men named were: William C. Coleman, Jr., of Kent School; John L. Donnell of Webster Groves High School; Thomas B. Healey of Worcester Academy; Frederick Holdsworth, Jr., of Milton Academy; James D. Light body of New Trier High School; and Douglas Mercer of Belmont Hill.

The Election Committee has decided that this year they will not announce the tabulation of votes until after the election, giving as their reason that in recent years the voters have showed a tendency to jump on the band wagon and to cast their votes for the most popular candidate in the primaries.

There was a total of 665 ballots cast this year, of which ten were discarded for not having been properly filled out. This number is almost 70 per cent of the Freshman Class and is the largest ballot cast by them in the past few years.

The extra-curricula activities of the candidates are spread over a wide field. However five of the six men are members of the Union Committee.

Upper Class Voting

Balloting will continue today in the first Senior election and the Junior Album Committee election in the Yard class rooms and halls in the morning, and at all the Houses at lunch time.
