Billionaire Investor Gerald Chan Under Scrutiny for Neglect of Historic Harvard Square Theater
On Thursday, December 9, the Harvard Dramatic Club will inaugurate a series of weekly radio broadcasts which will extend throughout the scholastic year, it was announced yesterday. The talks will be given over Station WAAB from 7:30 to 7:45 o'clock in the evening, and will deal with subjects in some way related to the theatre.
The first speaker of the series will be Theodore Spencer '28, assistant professor in English, who will discuss "Modern Poetic Drama." Other members of the Faculty who have consented to speak are Frederick C. Packard, Jr., '20, assistant professor of Public Speaking, Theodore Morrison '23, instructor in English, and Francis O. Matthiessen, associate professor in History and Literature.
According to Robert A. Solo '39, who is organizing the broadcasts, playwrights, directors, designers, and critics will speak later in the year. Among these is Elliot Norton, dramatic critic of the Boston "Post," who will give a talk entitled "The Critic Looks at the Theatre," on January 6.
Stating that the purpose of the broadcasts was to stimulate an interest in some of the less obvious aspects of the drama, John W. Sever '40, spokesman of the Dramatic Club, revealed that a few of the more air-minded members of the Club were pushing plans for the radio presentation of scenes taken from their current production, "Straight Scotch," and from subsequent plays later in the year.
