Harry Cowles Predicts Good Season for Varsity And 1941 Squash Teams

Swinging into its first matches early in December, the Varsity squash team has good prospects for a successful season, according to its head coach, Harry Cowles.

The December matches will all be played in the Massachusetts Squash Racquet League.

About 60 men have come out for the Varsity, and a tournament is now being held to determine the lower part of the team. This year, however, the team feels the loss of Richard Dorson, who played number one on the team last year and won the Intercollegiates.

Six lettermen are back from last year: George R. Blake '39, Hendrik De Kruif '38, John C. Develin '38, Robert O. Easton '38, Carl S. Oakman '38, and Alvah W. Sulloway '38.

On February 18 and 19, the Intercollegiate matches will be held on the Yale courts. Each college taking part in these matches sends three players.

The Freshman squash team seems fairly strong this year, Harry Cowles revealed. About 30 Yardlings have signed up, including John R. Glidden, brother of Germain Glidden, national champion.
